Sanders Pierce Theory)
THERE IS ANOTHER SKY
By Emily Dickinson
There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields-
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields-
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!
SEMIOTICS ANALYSIS
Emily was in sadness. Austin, her
brother was died the year that she wrote this poem. Emily spilled her sadness
into a poem. In this poem, she motivated herself from the grief. It showed from
the she wrote.
“There is another sky,” and ”And there is another sunshine,” explain
about another condition. Like Icon in Charles Sanders Pierce theory. “Sky” represents a condition. Condition
that ever change. The colours of the sky always change. Sometimes its colour is
blue, and sometime is red. Meaning that, the condition of life always changes.
Sometimes it is bad, and sometimes it is good. “Sunshine” is representing the examination or test of life that
change the heart condition. Like sunshine that change the colour of sky.
Emily ever has
a good condition that
is before her brother died. Then she is in bad condition. Austin was died.
He was there in another sky with another sunshine. It can be another place
except the world. “There is another sky,”
and ”And there is another sunshine,” can
mean as another place like paradise.
“Though it be darkness there;” Emily’s mean, even she was in “darkness” or sadness, “Never mind faded forests, Austin,” then line four until twelve showed
something good. Like Charles’Index. Those lines indicate Emily’s motivation
on sadness.
In a fact Emily still need her
brother like in thirteenth and fourteenth line; “Prithee, my brother,” and “Into my garden come!” The punctuation mark is declare
Emily’s satisfaction. After all of lines before it use comma. Hence she was
spilled her sadness.
